Session 01

📍 Location

The Rusty Cock in Vulyar, Karrnath, and a House Lyrandar airship bound for Karrnath’s lightning rail station.

⚔️ What Happened

The party gathered at the Rusty Cock in Vulyar, ready to board an airship and leave with their package of dragonshards. Several of their retainers were missing, however, and Roberto had once again wandered off drunk. Shady figures watched the group before leaving when Karsus noticed them.

While searching for Roberto, the party saw Karrnathi guards mistreating warforged as a warforged priest preached organic doomsday and the coming of the Lord of Blades. Karsus could not tolerate the abuse and persuaded the guards to stop. The retainers then led the party to a bandit-filled shack where Roberto was being held. The party subdued the bandits without killing anyone, recovered and punished Roberto, and promoted Firlandelo to leader of the retainers before departing.

House Lyrandar treated the party well aboard the airship. Their retainers settled into the cargo bay, while the party noticed Ferris d’Cannith traveling with five imposing elite warforged. Nerys seduced the ship’s leader, Juliana d’Lyrandar, and spent the next few days with her without the knowledge of her husband, Nelson d’Lyrandar. Ferris also approached Nerys, explaining that he was writing a novel about aquatic elven homelands. Nerys learned that Ferris shared the party’s route and was secretly carrying something to an unknown destination.

Karsus inspected the well-guarded cargo bay and found the retainers laughing and playing cards. On the third night, makeshift vessels attacked the airship in search of something aboard. Warforged terrorists struck, and the warforged already aboard appeared to revolt as their eyes turned a deep, bright red.

A warforged priest and four thugs attacked the party. When the priest tried to detonate himself, Nerys pushed him overboard. Empowered by Renoir and Karsus, Drennak destroyed and demoralized the remaining attackers.

In the corridor, the party found Ferris d’Cannith fleeing from a huge elite warforged that had once belonged to him. The vessel was already a slaughterhouse, with civilians and guards mangled amid repeated explosions. Ferris led the party to a secret cargo-bay compartment holding escape pods. Two pods had already launched, while two others were filled and preparing to leave; someone appeared to have killed the guards reserving them for important passengers.

The party entered a pod, but a spear took Ferris’s head just before he could follow. They seized the magical briefcase he had carried and shut the door. The pursuing warforged lifted the two-ton pod and shook it violently as the airship exploded.

The pod ejected and crashed far from the other survivors. The warforged pursued them all the way to the ground. It rose after the impact, then collapsed as its eyes returned to blue.
