Session 03

📍 Location

A ruined bunker in the Mournland.

⚔️ What Happened

The party began near the bunker they hoped to use as shelter from the Mournland’s miasma. Its entrance was choked with dangerous debris. Dren tried and failed to clear a route, narrowly avoiding a deadly boulder that would have crushed him.

Among the rubble, the party discovered a dormant warforged named M.A.7.7. Only five years old, he had been trapped there since the Mourning. He once guarded the bunker and warned that it had become infested with spiders after the disaster.

M.A.7.7 explained that he did not support the Lord of Blades or his cultists, although he often received messages from that entity urging warforged to unite, destroy the people of flesh, and reclaim their freedom. Karsus realized something important: stories of the Lord of Blades only began after the Mourning.

The party found a web-filled passage and burned through it, incinerating thousands of spiders after Karsus and Dren failed to move quietly. They were then attacked by a gigantic spider-like creature that none of them could identify. Dren was swallowed and brutally mauled. Karsus was struck down, but his orcish ferocity kept him alive long enough to destroy the creature with a heroic critical blow. M.A.7.7’s area attacks against the swarms and Renoir’s healing were essential to their survival.

The party recovered two Goz masks modified to prevent Mournland disease. A person already infected is automatically reduced to stage 1 while wearing one, although exposure to the miasma prevents the disease from falling below stage 1. They also found an everlight crystal, eight lesser alchemist’s fires, an alchemical flamethrower, and roughly 30 gp in assorted Cyran military antiques suitable for resale.

The party rested and recovered fully from the disease. While Renoir, Dren, and Karsus slept the following morning, M.A.7.7 went outside to experience the beautiful air of the Mournland. On his difficult return, he spotted roughly five red-eyed warforged searching for the bunker entrance, which the party had successfully concealed.

Using his kinetic powers, M.A.7.7 sent a magical warning to the others. The intruders appeared to be searching for weapons—most likely the flamethrower stored within the bunker.
