⚔️ What Happened

While the party rested at a tavern in Lathleer, the sleepless M.A.7.7 spent the uneventful night exploring the streets. In the morning, the party set out toward Fairhaven and passed through Delafelden’s industrial complex, home to a House Cannith West decommissioning depot where warforged were stripped and dismantled after the war.

Near a Creation Cradle where warforged were made, M.A.7.7 experienced a vision. The Lord of Blades spoke not with his usual booming theatricality, but in a calm, quiet, almost ordinary human voice: “This was the beginning of the end.” M.A.7.7 shared the vision with the party.

At the edge of the complex, a prophet-like figure delivered an impassioned speech against the treatment and enslavement of warforged. Roughly thirty warforged listened, some persuaded and others unmoved. The prophet then proclaimed the Lord of Blades as their only true savior.

Cannith guards moved to arrest him. When they attacked, he released a red wave of corrupting energy through the crowd. M.A.7.7 resisted its call, proving that service to the Lord of Blades was a choice he could refuse. About twenty warforged accepted the call and attacked everyone nearby.

The prophet died for his conviction by impaling himself on Dren’s rapier. The party won the ensuing battle, although several Cannith guards died. When reinforcements arrived, the party voluntarily submitted to questioning and received full treatment from Cannith doctors and artificers.

Maren Holt debriefed them. A rugged, blonde war veteran in her early forties, she was a non-dragonmarked Cannith contractor and former Brelish soldier who had become increasingly uneasy about the true nature of the decommissioning facilities. Maren escorted the party to Fairhaven to meet Jorlanna d’Cannith.

The party told Jorlanna about the Lord of Blades and the Tree of Suffering, a vision visible only to certain humans and warforged in which his enemies appeared impaled in bloody scenes. Jorlanna knew of no other report of the phenomenon. They also clarified that warforged were not forcibly turned; they were prompted and chose whether to answer the Lord of Blades. Jorlanna appreciated the party’s candor.

During a fit of the Lord of Blades’ influence, Jorlanna examined M.A.7.7 and made two critical diagnoses. The Lord of Blades could scry through M.A.7.7’s senses, explaining the visions. House Cannith could sever that connection only through cloning: transferring M.A.7.7’s soul and consciousness into a new warforged body. The solution posed a profound personal dilemma.

Jorlanna rewarded the party with gold, minor items, and use of a Cannith West safe house for political visitors and foreign travelers. The residence had six rooms, a permanent housekeeper, and a cook. She ended the meeting with a private proposition unrelated to politics, whose details would follow.
