⚔️ What Happened

The party left its horses and carriage with Vesna at Maison du Gauche, where Cannith West would care for them during the journey. They boarded a House Lyrandar airship bound for the Shadow Marches and traveled in economy.

The voyage seemed uneventful at the time. Only later, while remembering the other passengers, did the party realize that a suspicious half-orc watching them had been a House Tarkanan spy.

They reached Zarash’ak without further incident. The marsh city rose on stilts above the bog, and House Tharashk’s influence was everywhere. Drennak had returned to familiar ground.

The party met Drennak’s father, Thrakken, and told him about the Lord of Blades, Jorlanna d’Cannith, the alliance with Cannith West, and the dangers they had faced. They concealed the existence of the Cannith briefcase and Jorlanna’s son. Thrakken listened carefully and paid them 200 gp.

Their strategic objective became clear: the party needed to capitalize on its relationship with Jorlanna and Cannith West, deepening the friendship and strengthening the valuable alliance.

Thrakken was deeply concerned by House Tarkanan’s threats. House Tharashk had been the only dragonmarked house to tolerate the party and maintain cordial relations with Tarkanan, but that relationship had soured.

Tarkanan had attacked a dragonshard mine near Zarash’ak belonging to Drennak’s family. It was not simply revenge against the party; Tarkanan had broken its pact. With the party attacking Tarkanan interests elsewhere, the house might have chosen to send an unmistakable message.

Thrakken ordered the party to annihilate Tarkanan’s entire presence in the bog. They were to leave one survivor to carry the story back and make clear that House Tharashk would not tolerate the betrayal.

The spy’s location and purpose remained unknown.
