📍 Location
The smuggling tunnels and catacombs beneath The Lantern & Latch in Fairhaven.
⚔️ What Happened
The party followed the trail of wine and blood through the smuggling tunnels beneath The Lantern & Latch and into the catacomb passages beyond. At the back of a dead-end chamber, they found what appeared to be Tavrin: hooded, hunched against the far wall, and sobbing.
It was a trap. House Tarkanan’s team had arrived first and found the boy unconscious from drinking the stolen wine. They hid him out of sight. The team’s lieutenant took Tavrin’s appearance to serve as bait while two bandits waited in hiding. Battle became inevitable.
After defeating the lieutenant and his two bandits, the party detected an illusion within the chamber. Tavrin was imprisoned inside a pentagonal containment sigil anchored by five black candles. A fragment taken from the lieutenant’s possessions held five encoded riddles, each pointing to a word linked to the enchantment. The party solved the puzzle and peacefully dismantled the sigil without triggering the spell’s collapse.
Then the situation deteriorated. The instant the sigil fell and Tavrin’s aberrant mark was exposed, an outside force exploited M.A.7.7’s scrying connection. A direct command ordered him to annihilate the aberrant mark. M.A.7.7 lost control and began attacking the unconscious boy, but the party managed to restrain him.
With Tavrin in their custody, the party used his blood to open the magical briefcase Ferris d’Cannith had given them during their first mission. Inside, they found documents and schematics.
They returned Tavrin to Jorlanna and left quickly without telling anyone about the briefcase. The recovered documents described how to replicate the event that destroyed Cyre—the mechanism and enchantment responsible for the death of an entire nation.
The document bore the signature of Aaren d’Cannith.
